How do you go straight from main meals to dancing at your wedding reception?

In this blog, we will share our top four tips for getting everybody – young and old – onto the dance floor! Contact Wedding DJ Melbourne dance floor here

Invite your guests to the Dance Floor During The First Dance.

Most couples do not want to have their friends and family stare at them for an awkward four minutes of slow dancing. Kick off the dance floor by inviting all your friends and family halfway through your first dance – then follow up with an awesome upbeat party dance floor filler! Give your MC a nod when you are ready, or just wave your friends and family onto the dance floor!

Mix It Up A Little

Wedding guest demographics vary widely. You have got to mix up the songs to get everybody from your shy work friends to Nanna dancing. Matt Jefferies loves playing a mix of classy, upbeat songs that have lasted through the ages. Matt Jefferies will “read the crowd” and often play mini-sets of different types of genres, songs & artists to keep the dance floor fresh, exciting and appealing to all ages!

Do Not Ignore The Background Songs

To make sure friends and family are warmed up and ready to hit the dance floor, a good wedding DJ will carefully pick songs throughout the whole evening, including cocktail hour, dinner background songs and the part of the reception that is called “build the dance floor”, when everybody’s had a few drinks and are ready to shake their tail feather. Choosing the right dance floor songs is important, but so is building the energy at the right time to prepare your friends and family for a banging dance floor!

Shy Guests? What do I do if no one is dancing?

This is an excellent question. Some guests simply want to sit and relax and enjoy good music while chatting to friends and family. There is nothing wrong with this happening at all.

One trick that every Wedding DJ should have up their sleeve is the goose neck conga line. A good DJ will simply jump on the microphone and ask everyone to stand up at their tables. Then they get them to turn to their left. Ask them to choose a captain and then get them all to put their hands on the hips of the person in front. Make sure everyone but the captain does this and then hit play on an amazing song getting people in the mood to form one big conga line.
