ABBA is one of the all-time most successful singing groups and their songs are still a hit at weddings. As a Wedding DJ, I get different song requests from guests and couples, and ABBA songs are definitely one of them.

The group started when Benny and Björn decided to get together to record an album called Lycka and used their girlfriends as backup singers. In fact, Anni-Frid, Agnetha, Benny and Björn came together for one single called “Hej, gamle man” and that is how the Swedish group known as ABBA started.

After only three albums the hit group ABBA released a best-of album featuring all their hit songs so far. On 2008, ABBA finally got an album to number one spot in the American billboard charts after the release of the hit movie Mamma Mia!

Did You Know:

Abba was the first band in Sweden to win the Eurovision song competition in 1974 with their hit song “Waterloo”. Furthermore, ABBA held a competition in a local newspaper called Gothenburg Newspaper to find names of their band. They were impressed with the selection of names that people suggested but still went with their name ABBA.

Fun Fact:

ABBA was also known as a brand of jar fish goods sold on supermarket shelves. They had to negotiate with the company so that they could get the rights to use the name ABBA as their band name.

The group were massive in Australia, and their 1976 TV special got more views that the 1969 moon landing.
